The Wonders and Heartbreak of Farming

After 5 years of raising our small flock of Corriedale sheep I am still amazed at the difference, year to year, of lambing season. Last year my 5 ewes had a total of 14 lambs with no bottle babies and no deaths. This year, two of my ewes have given birth. Each had only 1 lamb and the second one born had a herniated umbilicus and had to be put down. This is probably not something that you want to hear about but it is indicative of the wonders and heartbreak of farming. Some years you have abundance with ease and others are a bust. Here's hoping that the rest of the year gets better.
